We are "Grupo Semear Vida" which is translated as "sow life" or "plant life". The purpose of all martial arts is to cultivate life.
Roanoke capoeira strives to improve human relations by increasing awareness of the history, philosophy, and tradition of the capoeira art. Capoeira is a game of life, developing harmony with your partner in such a manner that it appears to be a dance.
Roanoke Capoeira is dedicated to bringing the rich Afro-Brazilian artistic tradition of Capoeira to the Roanoke Valley. We are a member of the ASCAB (the American Society of Capoeira and Arts from Brazil) community, with groups all over the world. We are a dedicated group in Roanoke, Virginia striving to learn and perfect all aspects of the game. We promote an authentic yet accessible capoeira experience
As a member of ASCAB, Roanoke Capoeira is fortunate to be under the advisement of Mestre Doutor. At age 13, Doutor went to his first capoeira class with Mestre Camarao in Santos, Brazil. He began training with Mestre Bandeira and has now practiced Capoeira for over 35 years, receiving his mestre's belt in his 25th year.
